THE MIKE DILLON BAND & JACOB FRED JAZZ ODYSSEY TO TOUR WESTERN US TOGETHER MARCH & APRIL

 

The Mike Dillon Band and Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey are set to launch a 16-date tour of the western United States. The run kicks off with three shows in Colorado beginning in Boulder on March 19. It then cuts North to Idaho and Montana before heading to the Pacific Northwest followed by a stretch down the West Coast to San Diego. The tour wraps in April with shows in Santa Fe, NM and Norman, OK. The co-billed dates between Mike Dillon and Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey have deep historical significance as the artists have shared stages and collaborated for almost two decades.

Robben Ford Announces New Album ‘A Day in Nashville’

 

For his new album A Day In Nashville (March 4 / Mascot Label Group / Provogue), revered guitarist Robben Ford and his band spent a day in the Music City studio Sound Kitchen, invited some friends and recorded seven new songs penned by Ford, along with his version of “Poor Kelly Blues” from Maceo Merriweather and “Cut You Loose”, first recorded by James Cotton. The follow up to 2013’s acclaimed Bringing It Back Home, A Day in Nashville was originally planned as a live album to be recorded during his 2013 European tour. Inspired to write some new music, Robben instead decided to challenge himself and his band by doing something he’s never done before in his 40-plus year career: recording an album live in the studio, in one session.

The Blockley to close its doors

 

For the last two or three years The Blockley in Philadelphia has been the place to see rock and jam bands with a list of shows from the Skatalites to JGB, Dark Star Orchestra, Start Making Sense, Bernie Worrell Orchestra, Splintered Sunlight, Re-Birth Brass band and many others on their schedule. In an announcement from ownership this morning, bands and friends of the club were informed by the music programmer Chris Perella, “The Blockley will be closing its doors after 2013….”

Where’s the Funk At? A Study of the New England hard funk scene.

 

It’s Wednesday night and I’m sitting at home. I’m working on a project which must get done tonight (which is not this review) and that’s just fine, but at 10:22 I’m kind-of off in my head about a band that’s just right about now starting their first set. They’re warming up, but it’s about a 45 minute drive from my home on the outskirts of rural nowhere, over a mountain and down a stretch of highway and in to the middle of the funky town of Northampton, Mass.
